Pennybaker Causes Con siderable Excitement BOY WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE DROWNED Took;an";Auto Ride. Car Dis abled, Causing Delay In Returning When Charles, 10 year old son of G. W. Pennebaker, entered his home last night at 9 o'clock he relieved the great anxiety of his mother and put an end to a town wide search by five policemen. When Charles did not return home for three hours after supper he caused his mother considerable concern. A police alarm was sent m and the po lice were notified of the mission lad. They searched the town liitrh and low lint no trace of the youngster could be found. Finally one of the nnl-.-i-mcn decided that thev did not li.ivc enouch information to further cnndiu-t the search and he proceeded to call the mother over the phone to Rain a better description of the lad. when she stated that he hrd iust walk ed in at' the door. Mrs. Pennebaker then notified the notice to look tor Mr. Pennebaker who had iust ioined in the search Thev immediately took up the quest with the result that he was found and informed that his son had returned. Upon inquiry as to where he had been. Charles said he had been invited to go automobilinff with a party, ac centing the hospitality, thinking they would return in time for him to be home. It developed that the auto mobile broke, down while several miles out which caused the protracted delay resnltii'ff in the unnecessary worry of his parents and the work of the police. When the report of the disappear ance of the lad irot out. widclv circu lated rumors had it that the hd was :;'!no-ed n have rronc in swimming n-'l had drowned, while sonic intimat ed that he had run awav from home. Many others were of conflicting na ture. Th" incident caused no little excitement. SHERIFF TAKES MAN WHO STOLE A MOTORCYCLE Arrest Made at Eugene Man Thought to Be One Who Was Arrested Here Sheriff Kdward Wells of Mr. Vernon, Washington, arrived in Iiugene yes terday after his prisoner. Milo Shep herd, the young man who stole the motorcycle at that place last Sunday. Shepherd went right along without a requisition. He staved in Tacoma some time and then rode fo Vancou ver and it was the ferryman who put Wells on the track of Shepherd. He was ju-t preparing to leave Eugene when Sheriff Parker nabbed him and would have been gone within five minutes if lie had :: been caught. Mt. Vernon i- about 15 miles north of Seattle. (Special to Democrat.) Traffic over the south ern section of the Southern Pacific has been" considerably held up this morning on account of the burning out of a bridge north of here near Isadore early this morning. The origin of the fire has not yet been ascertained. Latest reports say that the fire was extinguished betore the bridge was damaged to a great extent but owing to the weakened condition ot the tim bers it has been condemned as to train traffic. A large crew of .vork men are busily engaged in repairing the damage and the work is expected to be completed by this evening. Tniin number 14. due to arrive here ;it 8:30 o'clock this morning is the only train up until noon that has been held up on account ot the lire at Isadore say local S. P. authorities. The regular noon train arrived on time at 12:413 o'clock but it is under stood that it made connections by transfer on this side of the disabled bridge. OEATH RATE IS DECIDEDLY BELOW AVERAGE FOR MONTR Only 19 Deaths Occurred Dur ing JuneThere Were 4-3 Births The death rate lor the month of June was decidedly below average ac cording to tlie report of County Health Officer W. 11. Davis, which vas placed on record in County Clerk Mark's office this morning. There were only 19 deaths during :he month, 6 of which were males and '.he remainder females. However, the death age is nut average, as only two of the deceased had reached their two score and ten, both being 88 years of age. Cine dtexl.a.1 6 and the rest were of middle age. The late George Washington klum, of Sodaville, who died June 7, was one of the aged and his daughter. Mrs. Mary Ida Wright, of Sodaville, followed him to his rave seven days later at the age of 55 years. The report shows that there were 4.1 births during the month. FORFEITS BAIL IN POLICE COURT THIS MORNING Stranger Would Not Tell Where He Came From. Went to Portland Arrested twice in two days on a charge of drimkeunes was the rec ord established yesterday and Sat urday by Hd. Stratton. a stranger, who did'not. recover sufficiently from his spree of two days duration to tell where lie came from. Stratton was arrested late Satur day night, in company with a party of friends, by the night police, after par ticipating in a hilarious revelrv on different streets within the city limits. Upon giving bail in the sum of $12 he was released, ami given in the care of his friends who promised to nit him to bed. Again yesterday afternoon while he was on his way to catch a train to Portland, Stratton was arrested by Griff King, while cutting a meander ing course out I. yon street, lie beg ged the ofticer to let him go. stating '.hat he was going to Portland and that he would never 'return to Albany. TI0N AGREED UPON West Half of the Grounds Will Be Platted and Sold as Residence Property That a portion of the Albany Col lege campus will soon be cut up in building lots and put on the market was indicated (his alter noon by a tatemeut made to a Democrat rep resentative by President H. Al. Crooks. At a recent meeting of the exe cutive committee of tlie board of trus tees ot the college, said Mr. Crooks, it was decided to immediately place on I lie market the west half of the college campus, that portion which is hounded by Uroadalbiu, Ferry, Ninth ind Klevcnth streets.
